The Cheapest Christmas Lights in Hopkins County Are Also the Hardest to Catch

This year's Christmas light season in Hopkins County has three main stops. They open at three different times, and the cheaper each one is, the fewer nights it runs. The $30-per-car drive-through off I-30 is open 51 nights in a row. The $5 walk through Heritage Park happens on two Saturdays. The free downtown parade and tree lighting fit into one weekend in early December, and that weekend hasn't been announced yet.

So plan the season around the dates you could miss, not the price. Frosty's will be open whenever you get to it. Heritage Park and downtown won't wait.

Exit 135 Opens First and Stays Open Longest

Frosty's Holiday Magic opens Friday, Nov. 13, at 7283 I-30, just off exit 135. Its site promises more than 1 million lights along the route. The season runs every night through Jan. 2, 2027. Hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Nov. 13 through Jan. 2 is 51 nights, which makes it the only light display in the county still running after Christmas.

Local families own and run it. The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce introduced it in December 2024 with Lindsay and Josh Chamness and Jennifer and Amanda Garriga as the owners and operators, and it officially opened on Nov. 17, 2024.

Admission is per vehicle, so the number of people in the car decides whether it's a good deal. The rules on Frosty's website cover the basics:

  • Price: $30 per vehicle. Vehicles with 10 or more guests pay a $15 surcharge.
  • Tickets: Buy online or at the entrance.
  • What can drive through: Standard passenger vehicles only. No buses, limousines, trailers, commercial vehicles, RVs or other oversized vehicles.
  • On the route: Stay in your vehicle and keep moving. There's parking and a designated photo area.
  • Weather: Severe weather can close it for the night.

The no-bus rule matters if a church group, scout troop or office party was planning to ride together. Those groups will need to split into regular cars.

Heritage Park Charges by the Person, on Two Saturdays

Two weeks after Frosty's opens, Christmas in the Park comes back to the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park at 416 N. Jackson St. The first night is Saturday, Nov. 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The second is Saturday, Dec. 5. The museum's page for that night lists the start as 5:30 a.m., which most likely means 5:30 p.m. like the first night, so check with the museum before you go.

The museum's event page describes the evening. The park is lit with Christmas trees and strung lights, and you smell popcorn as you walk in. Volunteers in period costume greet visitors at decorated buildings. Hot chocolate, cookies, punch and s'mores are free. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus wait inside the dog-trot log home, and there's entertainment in the chapel.

Admission is $5 for everyone over 6 years old, cash only. The museum puts "CASH ONLY" in capital letters for a reason. Nobody wants to find out at the gate that everyone in the group brought only cards.

Charging per person instead of per car changes the math. Heritage Park is cheaper for most households, but not all of them:

Who's going Frosty's Holiday Magic Christmas in the Park
Two adults $30 $10
Two adults, two kids ages 4 and 5 $30 $10
Two adults, two kids ages 8 and 10 $30 $20
Six adults in one car $30 $30
Ten people over age 6 in one vehicle $45 $50

Young families come out furthest ahead, since kids 6 and under get into Heritage Park free. The two options cost the same at six people. Above that, Frosty's per-car price wins, as long as everyone fits in a regular passenger vehicle.

The calendar matters as much as the cost. Frosty's gives you 51 nights to choose from. Heritage Park gives you two, and both are Saturdays. If your family has a ballgame, a work party or out-of-town guests on Nov. 28, you have exactly one backup date left.

Downtown Is Free, and Fits Into One Weekend

Downtown Sulphur Springs is the last stop, the cheapest, and the shortest. On the city's festivals page, Christmas Downtown includes shop specials, a parade, children's activities and the lighting of the community tree.

Organizers haven't posted 2026 dates yet, but last year shows the usual pattern. Front Porch News' December 2025 events roundup laid out the weekend:

  1. Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at 5:45 p.m.: The Christmas Tree Lighting on Celebration Plaza.
  2. Same night, 7 p.m.: The Sulphur Springs Lions Club Lighted Christmas Parade, starting at Buford Park and traveling through downtown and beyond.
  3. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Christmas Market on Main, at the corner of Davis and Main.

Last year's weekend fell on the first Friday and Saturday of December. In 2026, those are Dec. 4 and 5. If downtown follows the same pattern, it lands right next to Heritage Park's second night on Saturday, Dec. 5. That could make Dec. 4 and 5 the busiest two days of the season, with the free downtown events and the last Christmas in the Park back to back. Treat those dates as likely until the Lions Club and the city announce them, and wait to promise anything to visiting relatives until then.

All of downtown is free, but it happens in one window: one tree lighting, one parade and one market day. Miss it and there's no second chance until next December.

The November and December Calendar, in Order

Here's the season in date order, plus a few community events that come before and around the lights:

  1. Wednesday, Nov. 11: Sulphur Springs High School hosts its Veterans Day Reception and Ceremony. The reception runs 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 1:15 p.m. in the high school auditorium, according to KSST.
  2. Thursday, Nov. 12, 8 a.m.: The Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens Activity Center holds a Special Veterans Breakfast, where veterans who attend receive a gift, KSST reported.
  3. Friday, Nov. 13: Frosty's Holiday Magic opens for its 51-night run.
  4. Thursday, Nov. 26: The Hopkins County Turkey Trot has a kids' run at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K and 10K at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. A race directory lists Church Street in Sulphur Springs as the location.
  5. Saturday, Nov. 28: The first night of Christmas in the Park at Heritage Park, 5:30 to 8 p.m.
  6. Likely Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5: The downtown tree lighting, Lions Club parade and Christmas Market on Main, if they follow last year's first-weekend pattern.
  7. Saturday, Dec. 5: The second and final night of Christmas in the Park. Confirm the start time with the museum.
  8. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2027: Frosty's last night.

In practice, put Heritage Park and downtown on the calendar first, since those dates are fixed and few. Frosty's can go wherever there's room. With 51 nights, you could save it for the quiet week after Christmas, when the parade is over, Heritage Park has closed for the season, and relatives are still in town looking for something to do after dinner.
